I’m certain the only way I have ever made chili was in the Crock-Pot. I might have started with a recipe I got in 8th grade Home Economics class. Wait, did they have Crock-Pots back then? I’ve fine tuned this simple recipe over the past 30+ years and I have never made chili with any bean other than baked beans. Simply because I just don’t like any other beans. You would be surprised, it’s actually very good.
Ingredients
- 2 cans (28 ounce) baked beans
- 1 can (14 ounce) tomatoes petite diced
- 2 pounds chili meat
- 1 large onion diced
- 3 tablespoons chili powder
- 2 tablespoons garlic chopped
- 1 teaspoon jerk seasoning
Directions
1
Place all ingredients in crock pot.
2
Cover, cook on low 10-12 hours or on high 5-6 hours.
3
About 3 hours into the cooking time I smash the beans slightly with a potato masher, this will thicken the chili.
4
Serve hot with some fresh baked cornbread or crackers.
